…the birds.
I never run with music.
During a race, I want to hear if someone is coming up behind me.
During a jog, I want to hear nature.
What’s not to love about a low-flying hawk’s screech, an owl’s hoot, or a crow’s caw?
I am not alone. Nor would I want to be.

I’m the same. I’ve never listened to music when running.

I totally agree with this! I am not a big runner, but trying to get better. But I have participated in a few 5k and 10ks and always been put off with music! Listening to the world another you clears me head! Zx
There’s nothing like nature to inspire you to be outside!
Oh this is wonderful! I have friends who run with headphones in but you’re right that the outdoors offers its share of music 🙂
I feel the same way about hiking!
I’m with you. I never listen to music. I’d rather enjoy my surroundings.
I thought you were going to say ‘crossing the finishing line’. 🙂 🙂 I like walking but I can’t run to save my life.
I have run several spring marathons in the woods, where I have entertained myself by birding by ear. I did a run last week, where I saw robins and bluebirds. A killdeer landed on the trail in front of me. I saw a hawk in an old dead tree. I heard at least 2 kinds of woodpeckers. LOVED your article!
Yeah I never run with music. I run to get away from it all, so why bring it with you.
Great perspective, thanks for sharing!
