I’m been remiss in posting, mainly because I’ve been in a low in CrossFit. However, I’m recently enjoying CrossFit once again and looking forward to the CrossFit Open.
That being said, I’ve started 2024 with 3 personal records:
Deadlift: 240 lbs
Strict Press: 90 lbs
Front squat: 170 lbs
As you all know, if you’ve been doing CrossFit for a while, PRs are few and far between. The deadlift was super important to me cause I haven’t lifted this much in over 7 years. It’s been a road overcoming injuries, but I finally feel good!
After five years of CrossFit, PRs or personal records, are hard to come by. So when they happen, they are special, indeed.
Today, we did DT, a CrossFit Hero WOD I’ve written about before. It is:
12 Deadlifts (105 lbs)
9 Hang Power cleans
6 Push Jerks
I PR’ed by over 2 minutes, which was super exciting for me.
When you’ve been doing CrossFit for this long, it’s a constant mental struggle and lots of ebbs and flows. PR’s and CrossFit competitions help to keep me motivated on the days I don’t want to workout at all.
Last year, I posted on my weightlifting personal records in an effort to assess how much stronger I’ve gotten, so I thought I’d do the same this year.
Back squat: Previous: 210. Current PR: 235 Percentage increase: 8.93%
Front squat: Previous: 175. Current PR: 175 Percentage increase: 0%
Overhead squat:Â Previous:Â 115 Current PR:Â 120Â Percentage increase:Â 9.58%
Squat Clean:Â Previous:Â 140Â Current PR:Â 150 Percentage increase:Â 9.3%
Power Clean:Â Previous:Â 110Â Current PR:Â 135 Percentage increase:Â 12.27%
Bench Press:Â Previous:Â 102Â Current PR:Â 116Â Percentage increase:Â 8.79%
Split Jerk:Â Previous:Â 140Â Current PR:Â 140Â Percentage increase:Â 0%
Snatch:Â Previous:Â 105Â Current PR:Â 110Â Percentage increase:Â 9.5%
Deadlift:Â Previous:Â 230Â Current PR:Â 235Â Percentage increase:Â 9.7%
My percentages are low, which does not surprise me. Strength has not been a focus for me this last year. I thought I wanted to lift more and more, but I decided the risk of injury wasn’t worth the push. This was because I sprained my wrist trying to PR my squat clean during the Open and realized then being healthy is more important.
Last Friday, the program was to max/PR (personal record) back squat.
Today, the programming is to max Snatch and/or Clean and Jerk.
I don’t know about you all, but by Friday I’m wiped. Â Completely and totally. Â Today I’m really sore in my lats and arms. Â Last week it was my legs. Â I hiked an insane hike on Sunday and I don’t think I’m recovered from that one either.
So who decides to max on Fridays? Â I didn’t even try last week with the back squat and it probably won’t happen this week. Â It’s just a bad idea. Â Maxing should be on Mondays. Â When my body and my mind is fresh since a lot of the times maxing is in the brain. Â Thoughts?
