And So the Winds Change…

Yesterday, I accepted a job offer.

A dream job really.

Someone is going to PAY me to blog.

And to learn SEO, marketing, Google, design, etc.

My excitement is immense.

My attitude is a 180 degrees from blah.

I can still run my kids around.  Work out.  Do everything I’ve been doing…

I can’t wait to see what the future holds!!

The Ebbs & Flows of “Blah”…

Image result for blahI’m feeling “blah” again.

In all aspects of my life.

Crossfit.  My muscle ups aren’t where I want them.  Same with handstand walks.  Dumbbells.  Pretty much every move I need to work on.

Career.  Trying to decide what I want to do for the next 25 years.

Diet.  Still a struggle most days.

Family.  Good except for constant teenage bickering.

Spiritual.  Could always be better.

Attitude.  Same.  Blah.

I am getting my hair done today.  It’s been a while and is overdue.

Check off one good thing!!

CrossFit: A Life of Constant Soreness…

When you choose to beat your body up like I do, you’re constantly sore.

Moving can be a challenge (especially after having sat for long stretches of time).

Daily activities are not quite so easy (laundry, dishes, mopping, vacuuming, bending over, climbing stairs, etc).

Right now, I’m super sore.CrossFit MOB 4

For some reason, I decided to sign up for the Granite Games qualifier.  Just to see how I’d do. Right now, I’m in 40th place for masters division.  I need to be in 10th or higher to make it.  I had to work out on Friday night and Sunday morning.  My legs are trashed.  I’ve been practicing handstands and muscle ups so my arms are super sore.

Yet there’s a push I can’t explain.  One that tells me to keep going despite the soreness.  To keep reaching for my goals.  To keep striving.  To keep on, keeping on.

So I do…

Some Days I Wonder Why I Do the Things I Do…

I’m laying in bed, and my butt’s sore.Image result for weighted lunges

Specifically, my glutes.

Why? you may ask.

Because on Friday I decided to change the workout at my box because it was too easy.  It was jumping lunges, but I decided to do weighted lunges instead.

And now my butt is paying the price.

Why do I do the things I do again?

CrossFit Product Reviews: Born Primitive’s Bras

I first tried Born Primitive‘s products a year ago.  I ordered a bra and a pair of shorts.  I wasn’t a fan of the shorts that weren’t as tight as I liked them so I didn’t visit their website again.

However, I received an email from them recently and purchased another bra from them.

I liked it.  I bought the Vitality Coral Sports bra.  I had purchased a Moxie bra a year ago.Vitality Sports Bra (Coral)

I highly recommend the bras.  They fit snug and are super cute and are awesome for CrossFit workouts, especially the long ones.  I only bought one pair of shorts a year ago and they just ride up a lot during workouts.  That being said, I haven’t purchased any since then so am unsure now of the fit.

I am looking to purchase another bra once I can justify the expense (over $50 with shipping) again.

Great product.  A military company that proudly supports our troops.  Check them out today!

CrossFit: CrossFit Hero WOD Bulger

This CrossFit Hero WOD had everything in it: a push, a pull, a squat, and cardio/run.

It is:  Ten rounds of:  150 m run, 7 chest to bar pull ups, 7 front squats at 95 lbs for women, and 7 handstand push-ups.

Named after Corporal Nicholas Bulger who died in 2009 by an IED in Afghanistan, this WOD is perfect in every way.  I stricted all the chest to bar pull ups.  The temperature at 4 am was amazing.  I love being outdoors under the moonlight working up a sweat.  I just love working out.  With really great moves and feeling like I’m accomplishing something with my body.  Constantly pushing and striving and achieving.

I really can’t explain it beyond that…

You Win in the Little Moments…

Handstands for five minutes every day.

Muscle up practice twice a week for 45 minutes.

Throwing in handstand push ups when it’s not programmed.

Jumping rope in your garage for 10 minutes a day.

The little moments where you do extra work is where you win the WOD/workout. It’s these little moments that add up to big gains and before you know it, you’re doing the moves without thinking!

This applies to life as well. It’s the piano practice 15 minutes a day. The extra 30 minutes of writing practice. The 15 minute walk. The phone call or text to someone you want to keep in touch with. Coming in early to work 10 minutes early every day. Reading self-help/development books 10 minutes a day. Reading the Bible 10 minutes a day. Listening to your kids when they speak. Asking them questions when they arrive home from school about their day. Texting your spouse you love them every day. Talking to your spouse for 10 minutes every night before bed. Planning time together. Activities. Moments…

All of this adds up to you. You as a better person. Better athlete. Better worker. Better spiritual life. Better parent. Better spouse.

You only have so many moments in your lifetime. Don’t waste them. Add them up. Make them count. Form memories, not items. Hold your kids tight. Kiss them good night. Greet them in the morning. Pray for them.

Time is all you have. How do you use yours?

Working Out Alone is Not for Everyone…

Sometimes being alone is good.

You can listen to your thoughts.  Get a lot of work done without distractions.  Reconnect with yourself.

Sometimes, however, you need support and a push.

I like to work out alone.  No one judging.  I can do my own thing on my own time.

However, it can be challenging at times.

Today for example.

I had to do heavy push jerks.  I hate heavy push jerks because they are hard for me.  I never want to do them.  They suck.  And there were 20 of them.  In a row.

I did these one at a time, and they were tough.  The only thing that kept me going is my innate desire to finish and to conquer.  Otherwise, I would have quit because no part of me wanted to do them.

It’s all too easy to quit when you’re alone.  Because no one is looking.  No one is judging.  No one is there to care or to let down.

Except you.Image result for picture working out alone

And I can’t let myself down.

The key here is know yourself.  If you need support, go in a group.  If you’re a loner, go it alone.  Or mix it up like I do.

Know yourself and be honest with yourself.

In the end, that’s what makes you a better person.

Getting Your Butt Kicked by Dumbbells…

One of my weaknesses:  dumbbells.

I did dumbbell thrusters today and hang clean and jerks.Image result for dumbbells

And got my butt whipped!

I’ve become pretty good at dumbbell snatches because we do them more often.  But not these movements.

I need to add them in at least once every week or two weeks.

So much to do…

Running in Colorado: Garden of the Gods 10k…

Running in Colorado:  Garden of the Gods 10k

I ran my very first 10k.

I’ve run a marathon in college and several half-marathons but never a 10k

This one was absolutely breathtaking.  It was held in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO, is an amazing park that’s a Registered National Landmark. It features 300′ towering sandstone rock formations with Pikes Peak in the background.  The park was closed down for our run.

The weather was perfect at 7:30 am start time. Around 66 degrees and cloudy skies, we began with a huge hill climb. The course was lots of up and down hills and very few flat areas, which I tried to make the most of. It was hard to realize how hard the run was with beauty all around you.

Both my daughter and I won our age groups and received a cool, engraved mug. I finished about 30 seconds behind her and both of us in under an hour. What a fun and memorable day!
