When a Forced Break is Good…

Now that I can’t run or jump for one week, I’m forced to take a break from those activities.

This is a good thing.

Otherwise, I’m unsure if I would or not…

Comp Friends
Chilling with the girls!

I’ve been doing my own workouts for the past few days, focusing on active recovery.

It’s been nice.

De-loading….

Since for the past month I’ve been going non-stop.

I’m sure I’ll be itching to get back into the game.

But not quite yet…

I Did it Again…

I’m injured.Image result for unexpected injuries

Again.

This time it’s my right foot.

I dropped a weight.  It bounced.  Hit the top of my foot.

Some days I don’t know why I bother.

I was super pissed off.

At least it’s not broken, and my only restrictions are no running or jumping for one week.

I can handle that.

Still…

Never makes your day…

It’s a Constant Fight…

I feel blah.

Life’s Turbulence

Again.

Remember my original post?

It’s the same thing again.

I feel like it’s a constant fight with my body and its hormones and food and exercise and sleep and life (parenting and work and money and decisions and living).

I just want to throw in the towel at some moments.

“I give up!  I give up.  I.  GIVE.  UP!”

Never-ending work.  Effort.  Hassels.  Setbacks.  Sins.

Remember your blessings.  Remember your blessings.  Remember your blessings.

You have life.  You have your family.  You have your pets.  You have your health.  You are unlimited in mobility.  Unlimited in life.  In career.  In what you want to do.  You live in a country of choice.  You have a purpose.  A reason.  A gift.

Remember…

No Gutz No Glory

Image may contain: one or more peopleI spent the weekend at the No Gutz No Glory CrossFit competition in Denver, CO, at CrossFit Omnia.

It was fun!  The weather was gorgeous.  The people were great.  Good competition.  Great atmosphere.

My partner was from CrossFit Omnia, and he was good.  We did really well together considering we’d never met before.  We placed 18th out of 30 teams.  Not bad.  Our weakness was the strength ladder (that was me–he cleared it) and the rowing.  Our syncho moves were spot on.

My legs were gone by the last WOD (workout), but we did pretty good.  I’m a bit sore this morning but nothing too bad.

Good fun.  Great time.  Looking forward to this one next year!  Shouts out to Omnia for hosting!

The Key to CrossFit: The Mental Game

If you want to dominate your box, get better on all the moves, and crush your opponents, the key is the mental game.

You have to believe in yourself or no one else will.

You have to believe you can do it.

You have to believe you got this.

You have to tell yourself this over and over and over again.

Even when you don’t believe any of it.

And guess what?

The workout will end.  And you will have done it.  And your confidence will soar.

Cause you did it!Related image

You were right.  You knew it all along.

And the next time you do the same workout or the same moves or face something seemingly impossible you’ll be better able to do it.  You’ll do it better.  Faster.  And easier.

All because you had the right mindset.

Your brain is more important than your brawn.

Always remember that.

There’s Something about Lifting in Your Pajamas…

What would you consider the elixir of life?  Your highest fulfillment?  What you dream of doing?

Sipping a margarita on a white, sandy beach?

Sky-diving?

Climbing Mt. Everest?

Run a marathon?

See the Seven Wonders of the World?

For me, it’s climbing out of bed in the morning and lifting in my pajamas.

No joke.

At least one of my elixirs in life.  There’s more such as crushing certain CrossFit WOD’s, writing, watching my kids grow, spending time outdoors such as camping, fishing, and riding ATV’s with my family, running in the moonlight, watching bald eagles soar in the sky, etc.

Lifting in my pajamas ranks high no doubt about it.Image result for lifting in pajamas

It’s just me, the bar, weight plates, and my Great Dane.  In the garage.  Usually in the dark (cause I’m an early bird).  Alone.  Thinking.  Planning.  Living.  Growing stronger.  Each and every squat, push, or pull.

There’s no glamor.  No one watching.  No one will know.  No one judging.  Critiquing.  No temptation to compare yourself to others.

It’s slow work.  Sometimes deadly slow (can we say bench press?).  Slow, minute improvements, which cumulated over time results in big gains.

The results?  Something bigger than satisfaction.  I can’t explain it.  It definitely has a euphoric air.  Like an elixir…

It permeates the mind and takes over.

I’m a better person because of it.  It feeds a primal need I can’t explain either.

It’s beautiful.  I’m beautiful.  And I need that feeling in my life almost as much as I need water.

To function in today’s world full of evil and hatred and misunderstandings and sin.

Whatever your elixir is in life, grab onto it.  Don’t let it go.  Drink it deep.  Savor it.  Cherish it.  Nurture it.

Your life will be greatly enriched and more fulfilling if you do…

Muscles, Bones, and Tendons…

Image result for massage imageI had a massage this past week.

I needed it.  BAD.  My glutes were all tight and locked up, and it was affecting my mobility.

As I was lying on the table, clenching my teeth, cussing in my brain because the pain is intense, the thought always arises, Why am I doing this?

This thought was replaced by how I take care of all parts of my bodies. You have to in order to be effective at CrossFit and continue to do it.  At least at my age you do.

I get massages (muscles).  I now see a chiropractor (bones).  And a muscle activation specialist (tendons and ligaments).

I’m seeing someone for everything.  Except the brain…  A psychiatrist.

Um….I’m not there yet…

But maybe I should be??

Lessons From Workouts that Used to Kill You are Now Easy…

Murph is getting easier and easier for me.  I’ve now done it once a month for 2 months and already it’s not all that bad.

Murph is legendary among CrossFit workouts.  Every CrossFitter knows it and has probably done it at least once.  It’s traditionally performed on Memorial Day to remember Lieutenant Michael Murphy who was a Navy SEAL killed in action fighting for our freedoms.  It’s about remembering all of our veterans who give the greatest sacrifice for future generations.  A scholarship foundation has been set up in his honor.  Find out more HEREImage result for murph

My stressors have definitely gone up.  You expose the body to more and more and it adapts amazingly well.  I’ve upped my game, and it has helped my confidence tremendously.

It started last week where I decided to do my own programming.  It really started before that about a year ago when I decided to do my own strength and accessory work.  But it’s just been recently I’ve upped it a notch–a big notch.  There’s just so much to do I find myself constantly at it whenever I get the chance.

Ah, so many goals….

So little time…

Sunday Morning Murph…

Month 2 of keeping my resolution to do Murph (the Hero workout named after Lieutenant Michael Murphy who died fighting for our freedoms) once a month.  It consists of 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats, and then another 1 mile run.

My first mile run was slow because of my 5k yesterday. But I made up the time in the pull-ups and push ups by taking no breaks. My second mile run was probably about average. I PR’ed but can definitely get my time down by trimming time on the runs on both ends.

It was a gorgeous morning. About 50 degrees out (perfect when you’re wearing a weight vest!). Quiet. The moon was out during my first mile and then the sky was pink during my second.  I am so grateful for the life I lead.

My First 5k of the Season…

I ran my first 5k today of the season.  It was called Tyler3Miler, named after Tyler Mayle who died while hiking.  All of the funds raised go towards the band of Windsor High School in Windsor, CO.2 mile December

It was a gorgeous day here in Windsor, CO.  It was a bit chilly, but five minutes into this and all that was forgotten! There’s nothing like running in the fresh air with nature.  Nothing beats it!

I did well, but there wasn’t a lot of entries.  I was second place overall for females.  My daughter was about 40 seconds behind me.  My other daughter was about 13 minutes behind. She got a bad cramp.

I had a good time.  It was fun.  I’m preparing for a 10k in early June and this was a great warm up!
